The sacred peepal tree in temples
The Peepal tree (Aalmaram) in Hindu temples is regarded as a symbol of divinity. It is believed to be the abode of the Trimurthis—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Devotees perform rituals like lighting lamps and circumambulation (pradakshina) around the tree. Beyond its spiritual value, the Peepal tree purifies the air and fosters a serene and sacred atmosphere. Often surrounded by serpent deities (Naga idols) and tulsi groves, it also serves as a vital center of ecological and cultural harmony within temple premises.
